Expectations in Div. 1

The teacher's job is to:

• Show patience and helpfulness

• Show up ready to teach, work and learn

• Provide a safe space for students to take risks

• Be honest and compassionate

• Give accurate evaluations of work

• Be open and listen

• Show forgiveness and care

• Ensure safety

• Provide brain breaks

• Be respectful and responsible

• Create interesting and/or fun opportunities for learning and growth

• Have candy in stock

• Speak in the language of instruction (Ex: le français durant les cours de français)

• Set clear expectations and rubrics

• Read the room and offer some free time

The students’ job is to:

• Show up ready to work and learn

• Take care of this place, take care of each other, take care of yourself

• Raise your hand if you want to offer a comment or question

• Show honesty and a willingness to own mistakes and fix mistakes where possible

• Be helpful and show compassion and kindness

• Try your best – show determination

• Work collaboratively with a wide range of people and personalities

• Try things outside your comfort zone

• Encourage others and to practice inclusion

• Ask to use the washroom or leave the class space

• Speak in the language of instruction (Ex: le français durant les cours de français)

• Be friendly, respectful and responsible

• Read the room – staying quiet or participating as the activity requires

• Listen to each other and focus

• Persevere
