Expectations in Div. 3


Mme Hollins’ job is to:

  • Explain the work and the concepts clearly and slowly (but not so slowly that it’s boring)

  • Help confused students

  • Be respectful, kind and positive

  • Plan fun field trips and activities

  • Let students have outside time and time to enjoy fun school-wide special events (such as doughnut days)

  • Let students have time to do rough drafts

  • Allow for downtime (drawing, movies, games, reading, tech time etc.) when the class has worked hard

  • Bring treats and candy

  • Allow food while students work

  • Organize games across subject areas (Math, Science, Français…)

  • Check-in with each student daily

  • Ensure homework load is fair and does not cause a lot of stress

  • Speak in a respectful way (no swear words etc.)

  • Organize activities that motivate the students to speak en français

  • Give second chances

  • Allow students to choose their own partners from time to time

  • Ensure there is time to finish most work in class

  • Model ways to bring calm and to process big emotions

  • Play music while work is being done

  • Communicate with parents, guardians and other adults who care about you 


 

As a student, the job is to:

  • Ask great questions

  • Keep your body to yourself

  • Be respectful, polite and kind towards others (teachers and classmates)

  • Use sports equipment outside or in the gym, not in class

  • Use positive language (no swear words etc.)

  • Listen to others, stay quiet when needed, and keep your eyes on the speaker (not your watch, calculator or book etc.)

  • Speak en français during French blocks

  • Complete assigned work with care

  • Be inclusive during team projects

  • Remember: You have two ears, one mouth

  • Have fun

  • Try to keep others feeling safe (no bullying)

  • Read the room – Stay quiet when needed, enjoy the noise when it’s appropriate

  • Get to school on time with all your supplies

  • Listen carefully to demonstrations and instructions

  • Sing Bonne Fête…

  • Eat the food you brought to school (no trades!)

  • Hand in work on time

  • Bring a cooperative, positive attitude and come to school ready to learn

  • Remember to ask before leaving the class

  • Follow directions in a timely manner
